The Basque Country is a golfer's paradise , a perfect playground for lovers of nature and ball sports. Practiced for years with the inauguration of the first golf course in Biarritz on March 13, 1888, it quickly became an essential sport, appealing to both men and women.

In the 1930s, the Basque Country was already a delight for the bourgeoisie who competed in talent, taking pleasure in handling their club to be the winner. At the time, caddies were not carts, but people who carried the golfer's bag, while unisex golf offered 18-hole courses for gentlemen, and 9 holes for ladies. At the end of the 1980s, golf became popular with all classes and new courses opened. The icing on the cake (Basque ...) for the Basque Country which then became a real Mecca for golfers from all over the world !

Biarritz Golf is now the 2nd oldest golf course in Europe after Pau, completed by a dozen or so courses that invite you to perfect your ace, with a magnificent backdrop of blue sea, green hills, pine forests or fine sandy beaches. Epherra Golf

Located south-east of Biarritz in the commune of Souraïde, it offers a breathtaking view of the Pyrenees. This bucolic 18-hole course has beautiful curves, a rustic, technical and undulating green that is especially suitable for experienced golfers. Complete beginners may be able to have a mulligan (a 2nd chance at the start), and will be put to the test by the slopes. Enjoy a beautiful day under the Basque Country sun to play golf before tasting a delicious local dish at the restaurant where everything is homemade, enough to recover from your emotions. The Nivelle Golf Course

Ideally located in the Basque Country, it welcomes you between Ciboure and Saint-Jean-de-Luz , very close to Hendaye and Spain, at a crossroads between sea and mountains. Dating from the beginning of the 20th century, it is set in a pretty wooded park and offers you steep slopes, some of which are steep, ideal for golfers looking for a challenge. Chantaco Golf Course

Arcangues Golf Course

Beyond the magnificent green installed on the grounds of the Château d'Arcangues , it is the breathtaking setting that attracts golfers in search of nature and tranquility. This 18-hole course does not hide its curves, you will appreciate the golf cart if you are tired of not having your feet flat on the ground! Between the sea and the mountains, 3km from the beaches of Bidart, the Golf d'Arcangues is a modern establishment built on a 15th century farm, with a breathtaking view of the Pyrenees mountain range. The Phare Golf Course

A must-see, this golf course in the Basque Country is the one that introduced locals to the practice of this sport, making the region a golfer's paradise. Established in Biarritz since 1888, it extends over a magnificent 34-hectare estate, with the blue waves of the ocean in the background. Flatter than some courses, it nevertheless requires technique and precision to navigate the 18-hole green, still well maintained after all these years. Do you like challenges? Grab your club or putter to get past the many bunkers that line it, the very first golf course in the Basque Country may not be very new, but it has no shortage of obstacles to sharpen your practice. The advantage is that it is quite short, and easily achievable on foot.

Chiberta Golf Course

This is certainly one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Basque Country with its lake and its sublime panoramas of mountains and oceans. Located in Anglet, 200m from the beach, it immerses you in the heart of nature to play in a pine forest following a harmonious and pleasant layout. The 9-hole course is ideal for beginner golfers, while the 18-hole course is intended for fast games where 4-person fly balls follow one another. Open all year round, the Chiberta Golf Course is an exceptional green with impeccable maintenance in all seasons.

The Makila Golf Club

Golfers are charmed by this Basque Country golf course that blends perfectly into nature , between the beaches of Biarritz and the mountains. Located in Bassussarry in the heart of a wooded and hilly area , it is divided between wide fairways and the quality practice area where you can work on your swing and effects. This well-designed 18-hole course was designed by the American Rocky Roquemore in the 90s, in a quiet place perfect for concentrating. It can be covered on foot, provided you are in good shape, be prepared.

Ilbarritz Golf Course

Whether you are an amateur golfer or a club pro, you will love discovering this Basque Country golf course which brings together a vast training centre unique in Europe, several golf schools, a shop, a restaurant and even a meeting room. Workshops for training, lessons for improving, individual lessons, courses or initiations, everyone can progress according to their level and ambitions. Opened in 1988, 100 years after the Golf de Biarritz, this 9-hole golf course is a unique place to learn golf in a region where this sport has become a tradition.

The Corniche practice range in Urrugne

Once again, the sea and mountain landscapes surround this unique course, located along the Corniche road. In this magnificent panoramic environment, you will have plenty of time to work on your technique on the 4 indoor mats, the 18 outdoor mats, the grass practice area, 2 synthetic putting greens, play areas and even a bunker installed in this privileged setting. The balls changed every year are of very good quality and the prices are attractive, enough to convince beginners and practicing golfers to handle the club.
