By the ocean or in the hinterland, the Basque Country is a nature destination, the ideal place for outdoor holidays. Whether you are looking for a family campsite, with a lively atmosphere, or a top-of-the-range campsite for a calm and relaxing holiday, we have made a selection of 10 campsites for you, to find your piece of paradise in the Basque Country.

1) Arotxa campsite

In the Basque hinterland, while remaining close to the coast, in the heart of Labourd, Arotxa campiste is located near the charming village of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle. In a very natural environment, in the heart of the fields, the campsite has pitches and chalets for rent. A swimming pool allows you to take a dip on hot summer days.  

• The little extra : Walks are accessible from the campsite, on the Grande Randonnée paths or those of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.

In the same town, the lake of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle offers all kinds of water activities: stand-up-paddles, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats... The youngest can take a few blocks on the large sandy beach or let off steam in the playground. For older children, inflatable structures are installed during the summer. 2) Abaya campiste

In the south of the Basque Country, in Hendaye, Abaya campiste is a stone's throw from the Spanish border. If you want to share your holidays between France and Spain, you've come to the right place! Pitches for tents or for motorhomes and caravans, canvas bungalows, mobile homes are at your disposal in this large traditional campsite.

• The little extra : Its environment between the ocean and the Pyrenees.

If you hesitate between mountain and beach, we suggest you combine the two, during a beautiful hike on the mountains of Urrugne and the beaches of Hendaye. Are you a good walker? Take a little detour to the Spanish side. The ascent of Jaizkibel is tough but the panorama at the top is breathtaking!

3) Le Ruisseau campsite

In the middle of the Basque coast, in Bidart, Le Ruisseau campsite is a luxury campsite, rated 5 stars! It offers comfortable cottage accommodation and spacious pitches. On site, you will enjoy its large aquatic park, with several pools and giant slides, a water play area for children, a balneotherapy area, with an indoor swimming pool, bubble baths, hydro-massage jets, swimming lane in counter-current, hammam and sauna. There are also playgrounds, sports grounds, a mini-golf course, two fishing lakes, a small farm and a tree climbing course… There are so many activities to do that you will never leave the campsite!

• The little extra : Fishing lakes to tease fish or walk in a bucolic way!  

If you can find the time, Bidart is a picturesque village. Its central position on the coast allows easy access to the beaches of Biarritz or Saint-Jean-de-Luz and to surf spots. Moreover, surf schools are at your disposal for an initiation or an improvement. If the children need to let off steam, they should be taken to Bid'a Parc.

4) La Ferme des 4 Chênes

At La Ferme des 4 Chênes, families are well received. The pitches are planted with trees and the setting is green. If you want more comfort, you can stay in mobile homes or caba-tents with or without sanitary facilities. Children will find their happiness in the playground, the bouncy castle, or with the farm animals. Parents will appreciate the fitness area and the swimming pool.

• The little extra : A stone's throw from the beaches, a dream location between ocean and mountain.  

The campsite is located in Urt, near the Adour, the river that separates the Basque Country from the Landes. It is therefore a good starting point for visiting Basque or Landes sites. Bayonne is one of the essentials, but there is also Bidache and its fortress. On Lake Guiche, you can have fun on Pop's aquatic base, a 3000 m² course, with slides, a waterjump, inflatable structures, trampolines, a zip line... You can also rent stand-up-paddles, kayaks or boats. And to have fun with friends, there are also playgrounds : pétanque, volleyball, football and giant table football.

5) Itsas Mendi campsite

The Itsas Mendi campsite is a large campsite, classified 4 stars, very close to the beach. Depending on your wishes, you can set up your tent or put your suitcases in a mobile home and all you have to do is take advantage of the campsite's services and equipment : an aquatic area, with games and a relaxation area, sports, children's play areas, workshops and activities for all ages, evening entertainment...

• The little extra : A wellness area with massage and sauna packs, to have fun while the children enjoy the many activities...  

The campsite is close to the sea, beaches and surf spots, to the port of Guéthary, while benefiting from the shops and the activity of the seaside resort of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Nearby, the Parlementia beach is a popular surf spot. What if we took you for a weekend to Guéthary, a surfer's paradise?

6) Biarritz camping

The Biarritz Camping combines, in the heart of a natural environment, the pleasures of the sea and the beaches with the excitement of downtown Biarritz. Different accommodations are available. To stay in the camping spirit, without depriving yourself of comfort, rent a canvas bungalow. The services are up to the 4-star rating of this campsite : swimming pool with bubble baths and jets, hammam, aquagym lessons, a wellness center with treatments and massages, children's play area, bowling alley...

Of course, a visit to Biarritz is essential, with its Casino, the Hôtel du Palais, the Villa Belza, the old port, the Aquarium, the City of the Ocean… Are you looking for a typical beach in seaside resorts? You have to go to the Sables d'Or beach. At the edge of the city center, with its shops and restaurants, it is a lively, supervised and well-equipped beach : beach volleyball court, surf schools and rental agencies for board sports or boats.

7) Atlantica Ciela Village

The 4-star Atlantica Ciela Village campsite offers a wide range of rentals, from the large chalet with Basque colors, to the canvas tent. The same goes for services, entertainment and equipment. If you fancy a sporting holiday, courses and tournaments are organized regularly. If you prefer to have fun with the family, there are workshops, games, a circus, mini golf, a skill games room… But above all, two swimming pools and a paddling pool are waiting for you to change the beach a bit!

• The little extra : Its 100 m² of swimming pools and original activities.

In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, you can visit the Maison Louis XIV and that of the Infanta, the Urtubie castle, the botanical garden, and for children, the Luzi Parc and the Trampoline Park. In Ciboure, take a walk along its port to the Fort of Socoa. Villa Leïhorra is a magnificent “art deco” villa.

For an unusual discovery, go to Egiategia, a wine made under water.

8) plage Soubelet campsite

At Plage Soubelet campsite, barely 50 meters separate you from the ocean, you have almost your feet in the water! 9) village Eskualduna campsite

With 330 pitches and different rental styles, the 4-star Village Eskualduna campsite has something to satisfy all your desires. This large campsite has a huge water park, with several swimming pools, a relaxation lagoon, a solarium, multi-track slides, with bends... If you want entertainment, you will be served whatever your age : lessons, workshops, children's club...  

• The little extra : Its 2000m² aquatic park.

The Grande Plage in Hendaye is the last in France on the Atlantic coast. It lives up to its name and stretches over several kilometers of fine sand. It is extended by the beach of Deux Jumeaux, with at the end these two rocks fallen from the cliff. Nearby, do not miss the Abbadia Observatory Castle. 10) Ur-onea campsite

In Bidart, Ur-Onea campsite is a large 3-star campsite. In chalet, mobile homes, tents, in your caravan or camper van, there are all types of pitches and rentals available to you. Its aquatic area is the size of the campsite, with a large 300 m² heated pool, paddling pools for children with water games, a relaxation area with a jacuzzi, whirlpool or massage baths...

• The little extra : Quiet, off-center pitches and other more lively pitches in the heart of the campsite.

Hiking in the mountains or lazing on the beach, Hendaye's advantage is its location at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains, which plunge into the ocean. It is also the opportunity to discover the Spanish Basque Country. For a more unusual activity, we suggest you try the Cesta Punta, a Basque pelota game.
