Car access: leave the car in the parking spaces available near the departmental road (D26), then access on foot via the “Mulinako bidea” route, at the start of the hike located just after the Mouline bridge (parking is available there). forbidden). Your GPS may indicate a different access, which is that of the largely unpaved “Amübiko bidea” municipal road, where the crossing is difficult and/where non-4x4 vehicles can be damaged. It is strongly recommended not to take this route with an unsuitable vehicle.

During the summer period, a shuttle connecting the towns of Tardets and Larrau also provides access to the start of the site (information on ww.txiktxak.fr).

Suspended 150 m above the void, the Holzarté bridge is the most spectacular of all those you will encounter between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean! Accessible after a hike of around an hour, the suspension bridge spans 70 m over the Olhadubi canyon to reach the other bank. The panorama is striking, you don't need to be afraid of heights to cross as you have the impression of walking in a void.

ATTENTION mountain and hiking trail: significant difference in altitude, come equipped
      Elevation gain: 822 m

History: The suspension bridge is a technical work which dates from 1920. It was built by Italian workers who were employed in the workshops of the Lombardi Morello steelworks in Tardets. It allowed loggers to cross to the other bank and quickly reach the logging sites set up in the surrounding forests.

You will appreciate a grandiose landscape, formed by torrents over millennia, in the limestone of the Pyrenean massif.

MOUNTAIN TRAIL: Remember to be well equipped for a hike on the GR10 (mountain shoes/water/whistle/survival blanket) . To go up to the footbridge it takes around 1h30 and for the loop 5h (bring a picnic) , we advise you to leave early in the morning to enjoy the landscape and be able to turn around in the event of an incident.

The Passerelle d'Holzarte is a cable suspension bridge over a steep gorge. It is well set up an entrance off the main road to Larrau (3kms away) - there is a hotel and car park at the entrance. The walk to to bridge is 2kms each way or incorporated in a 13.6 km circuit - some spots are quiet steep and rocky so moderate fitness needed though there are lots of spots to rest.

Relatively short, but quite steep hike through mostly shaded forest to this impressive suspension footbridge. Well worth the walk for sure! There is a particularly steep section of this hike with steel wire as a handrail that when we went (hot day in Autumn) was very slippery so take care. Should be around 2-2.5 hours return from the road for the relatively fit.

The view on this hike is outstanding the entire day. Wear shoes with a good grip as the rocks are very slick in some parts and you'll encounter mud quite often. It's labeled as moderate and I would say it's moderate to difficult due to the slick rocks and steep ascension at parts. ABSOLUTELY worth it.
