Hendaye is first of all the story of a river, the Bidassoa, which from the mountains of Navarre flows into the bay of Txingudi, on the shores of this sumptuous bay live together Hendaye, Irun, and Hondarribia, three towns with a maritime vocation, facing the Atlantic while nestling at the foot of Jaizikibel, one of the highest peaks on the Cantabrian coast.
Hendaye is located on the right bank of the mouth, it is a very old fishing port, and an important stopover for pilgrims to Compostela who, from the 12th century, stopped there.
