Enjoy a gourmet break in Bayonne

For a creative culinary experience in the heart of Bayonne, head to Gozo (which means "gourmet" in Basque). This vibrant spot stands out with its evolving concept, offering a menu that changes throughout the day, from breakfast to afternoon tea, with an emphasis on homemade, local, and seasonal products. Their cookies, described as desserts in their own right, are a must-try specialty. Finally, for brunch enthusiasts, Gozo also offers a popular weekend brunch in a warm and refined atmosphere.

The coffee shops of Anglet

In Anglet, we begin our café tour at Byron, a coffee shop open every morning from Monday to Sunday until 3 pm, the perfect place to start your day with a good coffee. Cappuccino, latte, matcha, chai latte, Americano, homemade hot chocolate, tea, or herbal infusion—there's something for everyone! Cow's milk can even be replaced with plant-based milk, complementing 100% Arabica organic Ethiopian coffees. The added bonus: delicious homemade pastries to enjoy to your heart's content.

Coffee shops on the Basque coast

We head to the coast, to Biarritz, to step back in time and relive the golden age of early seaside resorts... The Hôtel Cosmopolitain is an iconic landmark in this renowned seaside town. Its chic, retro décor transports you to the heart of the 19th and early 20th centuries, a time when seaside towns flourished and the first tourists flocked to enjoy their hard-earned holidays. It's a true tea room, with a hushed atmosphere, soft pastel colors, and antique candy dishes overflowing with sweets: old-fashioned biscuits, traditional macarons, and delectable tarts... You'll experience precious, nostalgic moments, a journey out of time.

A complete change of scenery awaits at Milwaukee Café. Here, you step into a true American coffee shop. Pancakes, banoffees, brunch, burgers, and nuggets… the menu is all American fare with a few French touches! The coffee selection is classic but appealing. You're literally transported to the USA, and it's this change of scenery that makes it worth the trip.

In Bidart, you'll find yourself back in the authentic Basque Country, although... Koskenia is indeed an inn, with its café, bar, and traditional restaurant. But it's a modern and unique inn that offers a coworking space for you to work, network, and expand your professional network. To showcase local skills and craftsmanship, it features a gourmet grocery store with products from nearby producers. And because the Basque Country is above all a strong cultural heritage, it also offers an open mic night with local artists and a unique program of events.

Finally, in Hendaye, the last coastal town before the Spanish border, take a timeless break at Au Manoir des Arômes. More than just a coffee shop, it's a chocolate shop and tea room with elegant and spectacular décor. There, you can enjoy premium roasted coffees, a wide selection of loose-leaf teas, and above all, a rich , traditional hot chocolate. The establishment also offers fine pastries, macarons, and other sweet treats to accompany your drink in a warm and cozy atmosphere.

In Lower Navarre, in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Txoko is a café and tea room located on the banks of the Nive de Béhérobie river. Their pastries, and especially their Basque cake, are highly recommended! It's a welcome stop during a visit to this " Most Beautiful Village of France ".

Relaxing in the Spanish Basque Country

On the other side of the border, Donostia-San Sebastián also boasts its own specialty coffee scene. BB Kafé is a must-visit, located near La Concha Bay. The café focuses on healthy, local, and seasonal products. Here, coffee is serious business: the beans are carefully selected and roasted in Barcelona. BB Kafé is particularly renowned for its generous brunch and healthy options (bowls, smoothies), not to mention a selection of artisanal pastries for those with a sweet tooth.
