Café Ttipia, Basque for "little café", is located in the heart of one of France's most beautiful villages, Saint Jean Pied de Port. Chef Michel Ibargaray is a native of the region. After learning his trade at the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz, he continued his training in Paris with top chefs Alain Dutournier and Christian Etchebest.

He has now returned to his hometown to take the reins at Café Ttipia. The chef's cuisine is generous, modern and traditional, with an emphasis on local Basque produce.

Regulars of all generations mingle with visitors to this brasserie with its lovely terrace on the banks of the Nive river.

The friendly service and generous cuisine create a warm atmosphere that has made Café Ttipia a veritable institution in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and the Basque Country.

Buzzy atmosphere. Good range of local wines. I didn’t like my sausages as too grisly and the piperade was tasteless. But the beef axoa was excellent. Good service from the young staff.

Cousin place overall the main horse was pretty good and their orange drink is exceptional. Service was all right. They seem to be busy but that’s OK because it was worth it in the end was a good food. Our dessert was pretty good as well.

We visited during a pretty hectic weekend. Pouring rain, one of the busiest weeks of the year. Everything was fully booked but they still managed to accommodate us. Efficient service and quality food. The fish is great, try cheese and cider. Thanks to the service for your awesomeness.

Terrible, was seated and then ignored for 15 minutes unless you consider the flies that hounded us. 6 staff totally ignored us. To top it off when we got up to leave they mocked us…
