    • Located in the heart of the BASQUE COUNTRY, very close to the village of SAINT-JEAN-PIED-DE-PORT, the "POUTZIA" farm has been run from father to son for several generations.


      It was in 1966 that Pierre GASTELLOU took over the farm, working mainly in the breeding of beef cows with the "Blonde d'Aquitaine" breed. Five years later he opened his first point of sale in SAINT-JEAN-PIED-DE-PORT under the name of "BOUCHERIE CHARCUTERIE BASQUAISE" being able to market, thus, directly, the products of his farm.


      Since then, the company, which has 4 shops and a small cannery, has been taken over by his sons Alain and J-Pierre GASTELLOU.


      Today, "MAISON GASTELLOU" is taking another step forward by offering you its artisanal specialties in its online store.

    After a visit to the Saint Jean de Luz store where we were able to appreciate the quality of the charcuterie products (visually at first) we decided two days later to go to the mother store (where the breeding is also located which can be visited on prior request) of Saint Jean le Vieux near Saint Jean pied de port. On site we found the same quality of production (as well as the pure Basque pattern) with magnificent matured hams but also wonderful Ossau Iraty and Basque cakes (cherry or cream) absolutely divine 😋. So if you are looking for products to taste and/or bring back from a stay in the Basque country, this is the address for you, go there with your eyes closed and even the prices are more than correct, in any case more measured only in tourist shops in Biarritz, Bayonne or elsewhere.

    Taking advantage of the week of the ascent to see our family in Béarn and the Basque country, we made a getaway to Saint Jean de Vieux where we met very friendly locals who recommended going to Gastellou "butcher and charcutier " for Basque cakes. This advice turned out to be excellent. We bought two cakes, one with cherry and one with cream. What can I say, crispy, generous, tasty homemade at a very reasonable price! My best Basque cakes that I have tasted to date. You can go there with your eyes closed. We will return and also enjoy visiting their farm and buying cold meats. Don't change anything.
